Arsenal’s Gritty Display Without Key Players Earns Praise Ahead of Manchester City Clash
Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has commended Arsenal for their impressive 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, describing the performance as one befitting of league champions.
Despite dealing with injuries to key players, Mikel Arteta’s team secured all three points at the home of their North London rivals, with Gabriel’s decisive header in the 64th minute clinching the victory.
Neville remarked that the result puts Arsenal in a strong position heading into this weekend’s highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash against Manchester City.
“They had no Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice – two of their very, very best players – but what they did have going into that game was a very good back four and a very defensive shape and unit. Tottenham never broke that,” Neville said.
He went on to praise Arsenal’s disciplined approach, noting the maturity and tactical understanding in their play. “That was a team and performance of know-how. Wily, not naive, not immature – it was the opposite of that. It was experienced, mature, and it was what a team who has won multiple titles would play like.”
While Arteta is yet to win a league title at Arsenal, Neville believes Sunday’s display showed the qualities of a team ready to challenge for the top. “It was a really good performance,” he added.
