On Friday, former governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose, spoke out against the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyorchia Ayu, stating that his days as chairman are numbered. Fayose’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, released a statement announcing the former governor’s views on the matter.
Fayose’s reaction comes after he was suspended from the party on Thursday, along with four other party chieftains including Prof. Dennis Ityavyar from Benue State and Dr. Aslam Aliyu from Zamfara State. The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) made the announcement after a meeting on Thursday.
In his statement, Fayose referred to the Ayu-led National Working Committee of the party as “the last kick of a dead horse.” He predicted that Ayu’s “inglorious tenure” as the PDP’s national chairman would soon be history, and the party would enjoy a new lease of life. Fayose asserted that he and others who stood by the party when “Ayu and his cohorts” left it to die would rescue it and give life back to it.
Fayose further stated that the purported suspension would have no leg to stand on. Meanwhile, the PDP also referred the Governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom, to the National Disciplinary Committee over his involvement in anti-party activities during the last election.
