Adams Oshiomhole, the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has voiced his disagreement with President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to redesign the naira notes.
Oshiomhole made this known while speaking in Pidgin English at a market in Auchi, Edo State. He distanced himself from the president’s recent comments on the naira redesign policy and called on Buhari to respect the Supreme Court’s verdict on the matter.
Oshiomhole criticized the decision to change the currency during an election season and urged the president to comply with the Supreme Court ruling, which he stated supersedes any pronouncement by the president.
He disassociated himself from the issue, stating, “All this trouble that Buhari has caused over the currency change, my hands are not in it. Our party has told Buhari that if he wants to change the currency, he shouldn’t do it during an election. What he didn’t change during his time, he shouldn’t ruin someone else’s time. It’s not right.”
Regarding the new currency, Oshiomhole advised Nigerians not to discard their naira as it will remain valid according to the Supreme Court ruling. He also mentioned that the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, would expire after the presidential election, but citizens’ money would remain. In his words, “By the time you finish voting on Saturday, Emefiele, the Central Bank Governor, will expire. Your money will not expire. But the president will expire.”
