The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has ordered the immediate demolition of all existing structures built on the Kwarin Gogau stream in the metropolitan area.
The state Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, made this known while briefing newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting in Kano.
Garba said the state government also ordered the demolishing of all structures on drainage lines within and surrounding Kantin-Kwari Market with a view to removing all obstacles that hinder the smooth flow of both storm and wastewater in the area.
“The council directed that all temporary structures mounted on the drainage system within and around the market should be removed with immediate effect,” he said.
He said that the measure would assist in removing all obstacles that hinder the smooth flow of both storm and wastewater in the area.
The measure, he said, was a sequel to the Report of Rapid Assessment of Flooding in the state submitted to the council by the Commissioners of Works and Environment, Alhaji Idris Wada and Dr. Kabiru Getso, respectively.
According to him, the council has directed the desilting and evacuation of all blocked drainages within Kantin-Kwari market and its surroundings.
