Vice President Yemi Osinbajo reveals the government’s plan to electrify 5 million homes via solar power in the country

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has disclosed the federal government’s plan to power the homes of 5 million Nigerians with solar power.

Osinbajo reaffirmed the government’s commitment towards making the country a better place for Nigerians while speaking at a Virtual Presidential Policy Dialogue Session organized by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

He said that while the Buhari administration is focusing on key areas like agriculture, housing, manufacturing, they also intend to expand to cultivation and agro-processing.

Osinbajo said:

We are to create jobs and boost our national housing programme. We would be intentional in the support of manufacturers in using our local raw materials. We are seriously engaging the use of cement in building our roads, as it will be cheaper for us and more durable.

We are targeting electrification of five million households with solar power, and we are supporting SMEs, especially in the pharmaceuticals to enhance the production of personal protective equipment.”
