The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 21, and Monday, April 24, 2023, as public holidays for Muslim faithful to mark the end of Ramadan fasting.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, in a statement released by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior, Shuaib Belgore, on Wednesday.
In his statement, Aregbesola congratulated all Muslim faithful on the successful completion of Ramadan and the forthcoming celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
He urged them to imbibe the virtues of kindness, love, tolerance, peace, self-denial, and sacrifice, which are the hallmarks of the fasting period.
He further stated that the “deep spiritual consciousness” of the fasting period should not end with the celebration but should be maintained, urging Muslims to continue to pray for the peace and progress of the nation.
The Minister also reassured Nigerians of the government’s commitment to a peaceful transition of government following successful elections. He further assured of the government’s commitment to providing security for the lives and property of every citizen and foreigner in the country.
Aregbesola commended all security agencies for their successes in the fight against criminals across the country while urging Nigerians to be vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities to law enforcement agencies nearest to them, stressing that security is everyone’s responsibility.
He also admonished Nigerians to report any suspicious activities and persons to the N-Alert application. Finally, he wished all Muslim faithful a happy celebration.
