Ex-Burton Albion Defender ,Kelvin Maynard ,Shot Dead In Amsterdam  32-year-old former Burton Albion defender and Dutch-Surinamese player, Kelvin Maynard was shot and killed near a fire station, while in his car in Amsterdam on Wednesday night.

Reports said Maynard who played for Royal Antwerp and was also playing for non-league Dutch club Quick Boys was on a run for his life to escape gunmen by driving towards a nearby fire station.

According to the Dutch police, Kelvin was said to have been shot dead by two men riding a motorbike who seemed to be chasing his car. He had crashed into the station where the firefighters had attempted to help him but he died due to injuries.

The suspects were said to have fled the scene on a black scooter.

 The investigation is in full swing as the police in Amsterdam has launched a manhunt and are appealing for information on the men on the scooter.

According to  Manchester Evening News, a police statement said: “We can confirm that the fatal victim of the shooting incident on Langbroekdreef last night was 32-year-old Kelvin Maynap.

The Paramaribo Suriname born Maynard joined Burton in November 2014 and described it at the time as “a dream”. He was restricted by injury to just 10 appearances as his team won the 2014/5 League Two title before he was ruled out the following season after suffering a knee injury in a pre-season game.

He left Burton two and a half years ago to join the Dutch side Spakenburg . The married Dutch-Surinamese player, also had a stint at Royal Antwerp, was at non-league Dutch club Alphense Boys.

As a gesture of respect to Kelvin, the club’s next fixture which was scheduled to be played on Saturday has been postponed.
