A former governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani has lost his senatorial bid to the Labour Party candidate, Kelvin Chukwu.
Chimaroke Nnamani was contesting under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Enugu east senatorial, seat.
The LP candidate secured 69,136 votes to win the election, Nnamani came second with 48,701 votes while Adaku Ogbu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) came a distant third with 8,548 votes.
The result was announced by the INEC Returning Officer, Joachim Omeje, on Sunday.
The LP candidate, Kelvin Chukwu is the brother to Oyibo Chukwu, who was the LP candidate for the senatorial district until his death days before the election was initially scheduled to hold in February.
Oyibo was killed on February 22, alongside some of his supporters, in Amechi Awkunanaw in Enugu south LGA of Enugu when gunmen opened fire on his convoy.
