MI Abaga, Ycee Register Displeasure At Rick Ross Show In Nigeria
Rick Ross headlined a show in Nigeria and apparently, no rapper is enlisted to grace the event. This gesture is a cause of the friction between rappers and the entire music industry.
A few Nigerian rappers have come out to register their displeasure with the organizers of the show as to why rappers in the country are not enlisted on the show.
Ycee says he’s not even speaking for himself knowing fully well he hasn’t dropped a rap song in a while, what about others keeping it up?
In his words;
“Bruh this ain’t even about me cos I haven’t put out rap music in a while but how do you have a Rick Ross show in Nigeria and not have ONE SINGLE NIGERIAN RAPPER ON THE LINE UP???
And tomorrow you wanna come on twitter and ask why rappers are switching genres”
Another Nigerian rapper, MI Abaga explained his part, though, he was invited but never honoured the invitation.
“I was invited to meet Rick Ross.. I responded by saying if I could do it one on one. Ofcourse they declined.. the afrobeats industry will not respect Hiphop just because.. that’s fine. Let’s accept it as what it is and make GREAT MUSIC FOR THE ONES who do care.
That’s how I created the wave the first time!!! Every single time I gave them music I never cheated them.. I made classic after classic and am relentless still.. the guy is my best album yet coming soon! Classic.. give your best and the music will grow! (sic)”
MI went further to say he won’t allow himself to be treated less than the rapper he is:
My first big gig ever was in 2008 with Jay Z and Rihanna and Usher.. how I was treated that day taught me a valuable lesson.. them no go respect us.. until we respect ourselves
The show dubbed “Rick Ross Live In Lagos” headlined by Rozay himself held at Eko Hotels and Suite, Lagos last night with the likes of Davido, Tiwa Savage, Mayorkun, Patoranking, Buju, Rema, Pheelz and DJ Obi.
