Oscar’s Invitation: Nollywood Legend Richard Mofe-Damijo Among Notable Invitees
Actor RMD and Three Other Nigerians Warmly Welcomed into the Esteemed Academy of Motion Picture, Arts, and Sciences
Renowned Nollywood actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo, is elated to be among the four distinguished Nigerians extended an invitation to join the illustrious Academy of Motion Picture, Arts, and Sciences, famously known as the Oscars Award’s governing body.
The Academy revealed its 2023 class of 398 “exceptional artists and executives” on Wednesday, marking an ongoing commitment to “representation, inclusion, and equity” as stated on its official website.
Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang jointly commended the new invitees, stating, “These newly inducted members epitomize extraordinary global talent in various cinematic disciplines. Their remarkable contributions have had a significant impact on the art and science of film and on movie enthusiasts worldwide.”
Richard Mofe-Damijo, lovingly known as RMD, was overjoyed by the news. Referring to it as his “best early birthday present,” the actor expressed his sheer delight on his Instagram account.
“Initially, I was inundated with congratulatory messages without fully grasping the reason. However, after some investigation, it was confirmed through the official website. It is indeed official, and congratulations are due!” he wrote.
Adding to his joy, RMD stated, “July, my birth month, not only brings perfection but also abundant gifts! I am yet to identify my sponsors for this, but I will extend my heartfelt thanks once I do. My heart is brimming with happiness!”
Alongside RMD, other Nigerian luminaries receiving this prestigious invitation include film producer and director Kunle Afolayan, “Gangs of Lagos” director Jade Osiberu, and AMVCA-winning screen-writer, C.J “Fiery” Obasi.
