Premier League club Arsenal have confirmed that midfielder Mohammed Elneny has signed a contract extension at the club, that sees him at the Emirates till the summer of 2023. The contract also states that Elneny is liable to further extend the contract to a further year and could see him remain a Gunner till 2024.
The 30-year-old has had a resurgence of form in the last few months at the club following the close of the January transfer window. Elneny had been hoping to leave Arsenal earlier this season due to a lack of playing time. With Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey ahead of him in the selections, it looked gloomy for him at North London.
Arsenal have picked up few but significant injuries, with the likes of Thomas Partey and Albert Lokonga struggling with their fitness in recent weeks. This has thus enabled Elneny to get a starting slot at the club over the last six to eight weeks. Cementing his position with stellar performances, the Egyptian Pharaoh has become a cynosure for Mikel Arteta and his backroom staff who are pleased with his resurgence.
The Gunners are very pleased to have kept their midfielder for another year and it is most likely that the player might go as far as 2024 in his stay at the Emirates. When asked about his new contract and how it felt for him, he admitted he was very pleased. ”I love this club and I feel like part of this family,” he said.
Arsenal are now turning their attention to Gabriel Martinelli signing a new contract at the club. The Brazil international signed for the Gunners in 2019 and it was a four-year deal. The player will see his current deal expire in 2023 and the board is eager to keep him till at least 2026. There have been no secondary discussions with Martinelli’s representative but the Arsenal board remains optimistic.
Eddie Nketiah’s discussions have stalled and the player may leave on a free basis at the end of the season. It is not certain what he has declared regarding his demands but he has been very vocal about bein Arsenal’s first-choice striker. Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus has been contacted as well and the Brazil star is yet to communicate his decision with the club.
