EFCC assures public of uninterrupted operations after fire incident

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a statement reassuring the public that the recent fire at its Enugu Zonal Command will not affect its operations. According to the spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, the commission’s secretary, Dr. George Ekpungu, made the announcement during an inspection visit on Sunday.

Dr. Ekpungu expressed relief that the fire did not affect critical components of the commission’s work and noted that the digitization process initiated by the current leadership had ensured that all processes were fully digitized with backups at the central server in Abuja. He also expressed gratitude that no lives were lost during the incident.

The EFCC stated that the fire was caused by a surge in the public power source, but Dr. Ekpungu noted that the exact cause of the fire might not be known until the ongoing investigation is concluded. However, he revealed that the preliminary investigation indicated an electrical spark as the cause of the fire.

Dr. Ekpungu further noted that the EFCC is an ICT-sophisticated organization and that all critical components of their operations are safe, including the records, armoury, suspects, detainees, and other critical items. He reiterated that the commission’s digitalization process ensures that the incident will not affect its operations.

During the visit, Dr. Ekpungu was accompanied by the Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Osita Nwajah. The EFCC assured the public that it will continue to carry out its duties effectively despite the incident.
