Emotions Run High at Press Conference Demanding Justice for Mohbad
The mother of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, clashed with actor Yomi Fabiyi on Wednesday during a press conference in Lagos. The heated exchange occurred at Radisson Blu, Ikeja, where Fabiyi demanded justice for the late artist and alleged that Mohbad’s younger brother, Adura Aloba, had contacted him with information about the singer’s death.
Fabiyi claimed Adura messaged him on Instagram, stating that he knew the cause of his brother’s death. However, Mrs. Abosede Aloba firmly denied the accusation, insisting that Adura had no such knowledge and urging Fabiyi to stop implicating her son.
In an emotional outburst, she said, “They killed Mohbad, and you want me to lose his brother unjustly. He knows nothing about his brother’s death; do not implicate my son. I am not happy that I lost Mohbad because if he were alive, I wouldn’t be sitting here with you. They took my precious gift away, and I won’t let them take Adura, too.”
She accused another individual, identified as Damola, of misusing Adura’s phone to send the message to Fabiyi and revealed that Damola had later apologized for the misunderstanding.
Mrs. Aloba continued, “At this point, I thought you wanted to launder my son’s image. He has denied this allegation countless times, but you still called this press conference to taint his image. Those who are using my son’s death for their personal gains, I leave them to God.”
Fabiyi’s Defense
Fabiyi responded, stating that he was less concerned about who sent the message but more about its content. He maintained that the message was sent from Adura’s account, and he couldn’t ignore it.
“There is no way I would wish Adura or Mohbad any harm. If it wasn’t Adura who sent the message explaining Mohbad’s death, would you want me to keep quiet? You weren’t there when Mohbad died, so you may not know what happened,” Fabiyi argued.
He added, “When I saw the message, I thought you wanted to help your brother. If you make a mistake and the person collects N3 million from me, would you want me to keep quiet? I can’t.”
Background
Mohbad died on September 11, 2023, at the age of 26. His death sparked widespread reactions and calls for investigation. Days after his passing, a nurse who administered a tetanus vaccine to him was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command. The nurse was later discovered to be unlicensed.
As emotions continue to run high among family, fans, and advocates, the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death remain under scrutiny, with calls for justice growing louder.
