A dramatic scene unfolded earlier today at the Federal High Court in Lagos as a heated dispute erupted between the Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) officials over the custody of the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
The embattled CBN governor had been arraigned by the Federal Ministry of Justice on charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. However, Emefiele pleaded “not guilty” to the charges, leading to his release on bail in the sum of N20 million with one surety.
Presiding over the case, Justice Nicholas Oweibo ordered that Godwin Emefiele be remanded at the correctional center until his bail conditions were met. This ruling, however, was met with resistance from DSS operatives who insisted on taking custody of the accused.
The situation quickly escalated into an all-out brawl and heated arguments between personnel from both the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Correctional Service, right on the premises of the court.
The altercation not only drew the attention of onlookers but also raised concerns about the security and proper administration of justice within the country’s legal system.
Talks about the incident have since been circulating across various media platforms, with many Nigerians expressing their concerns over the apparent lack of coordination and collaboration between government agencies.
