Dino Melaye has been sacked from his position as Kogi State West Senator by the National Assembly Petition Tribunal.
Melaye, as a candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), had emerged victorious at the February 23 election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Dissatisfied with the result, his opponent, Senator Smart Adeyemi, who represented the All Progressives Congress (APC), challenged Melaye’s victory at the tribunal, citing certain irregularities.
A three-man panel presided over by Justice A.O. Chijioke unanimously accepted Adeyemi’s appeal on Friday, August 23, and ordered another election into the senatorial axis.
Dino Melaye reacted to the tribunal’s judgment by saying that there was no cause for alarm as his mandate would not be taken from him.
Melaye is contesting in the upcoming governorship election in Kogi State.
