Diezani Alison Madueke came from a wealthy family and tradition of excellence. Her father was once a Shell Executive Director. She graduated from Howard and Cambridge. She was the first female Executive Director in Shell following the step of her father. She was married to Allison Madueke, a one time Chief of Naval Staff who was at various times governor of Imo and Anambra State.
Diezani was the first female Minister of Transportation. First female Minister of Mines and Steel and also first female Minister of Petroleum. She was the longest serving Minister in Nigeria. She was the first female OPEC president. Yet, that wasn’t enough for her not to steal.
They say give power to the comfortable for they have no reason to steal. Diezani Alison Madueke was blessed among millions. She had no reason to steal. NONE! At the level of a Senior Manager in Shell, you have made it for life not to talk when you’re Executive Director couple with Ministerial appointments. Her Public Service was supposed to be to give back to a society that was kind to her.
Rather, she milked the society dry, ran it ground and chose to run away.
Not only that our institutions are weak to easily dance on corruption. Peter Obi once asked: Are we Nigerians the cause or we are caused as a nation? Our curse is beyond the weakness of our institutions and down to the nature of our culture. The culture of impudence, patronage and unashamed mediocrity which seems pervade every sphere of our lives. It’s a sickening scenario we are in.
Nigeria must do everything to keep that greedy woman alive.
I’m sure we’ve not gotten back half of what she stole. She is a kleptomaniac! Nothing more or less! When greed is in you nothing will ever seem enough for you. There is never a good reason for corruption. A good name is better than gold and silver. Bad people are bad. Period!
