Rapper’s $50 Million Bail Request Denied Amid Concerns of Flight Risk
Sean “Diddy” Combs has reportedly been placed on suicide watch in prison as a precautionary measure while he awaits trial on serious charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering. The rapper appeared in court on Wednesday to propose a $50 million bail package in an attempt to avoid being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. However, the judge denied the request.
According to PEOPLE, Diddy’s placement on suicide watch is not due to any specific incident but is a standard preventative measure. During the hearing, Diddy’s legal team argued that he was neither a flight risk nor a danger to society, but they were unable to convince the judge.
Prosecutors presented text messages allegedly sent by Diddy to his ex-partner Cassie Ventura following an attack on her in 2016. One of the messages reportedly read: “Call me, the cops are here. I got six kids. You, please call. I’m surrounded. You gonna abandon me all alone.”
Diddy has pleaded not guilty to the charges and maintains his innocence, asserting that he is “an innocent man.” Despite his legal team’s efforts to secure his release, he will remain in custody until his trial.
