Barcelona defender Dani Alves is hoping to sign at least one more year to remain at Camp Nou. The 39-year-old is very happy at the club and he is excited at the prospect of working with Xavi as a player and also now as a coach. Dani Alves made the headline return to Barcelona in the January window and he signed a short-term deal with the Catalan giants.
However, Alves believes he still has a lot to offer at his club and he intends to help out in any way he can. ”Age is just a number. I feel really good, strong, and ready to play,” he said during a recent interview. ”I want to remain at Barcelona well past this season and I hope my wish will be granted” he continued.
Alves is football’s most decorated player, having won 43 titles across club and national football. Upon leaving Barcelona in 2016, he made a move to PSG but in January he was unveiled as a Barcelona player after agreeing to a pre-contract in October 2021 to join the club in 2022. Barcelona intends to sign a right-back this summer to give Sergino Dest some competition but with Alves keen to compete, they may look no further.
Kieran Trippier of Newcastle was an option but the England international made the switch to Tyneside in January after saying farewell to Atletico Madrid. Other options for the position include Chelsea’s Reece James, PSG defender Thilo Kehrer and also Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey has been a surprise scout referral.
Barcelona have concluded the signing of Andreas Christiensen as well as Franck Kessie from Chelsea and Milan respectively. Both players come in as free agents and will be key to Xavi’s rebuilding process in the coming season. Alves is willing to cut his weekly wage by a small margin in order to play at least one more year for Barcelona. The Barcelona board is only considering it remotely but will make a decision before June 10.
Alves was not registered for the UEL due to a late registration process for the knockout stage of the competition. Barcelona are not interested in paying any money for Adama Traore but will be very open to a swap deal involving Fransisco Trincao. Trincao spent the 2021/2022 season on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers and in January Barca signed Traore on loan till the end of the season. Wolves will communicate their decision to Barca at the start of June.
