The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has encountered a major setback today as the Supreme Court dismissed his appeal against President Muhammadu Buhari for lack of merit.
The court reached a unanimous decision, validating President Buhari’s victory in the February 23 presidential election.
The seven-man panel which was presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Ibrahim Muhammed, said that the appeal had no merit.
Atiku had gone to the court to challenge the Presidential Election on Petitions Tribunal’s verdict on September 11 which had upheld the President’s victory at the polls.
