Aston Villa are now very confident that Philippe Coutinho will be a Villa player come next season- this time on a permanent transfer. The 29-year-old failed to meet the demands at the Nou Camp after leaving Liverpool for a club record sale of £142m for the Catalan city. Coutinho spent the 2019/2020 season at Bayern Munich, where he won the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League trophies, beating Barcelona in the famous 8-2 victory in August 2020.
Coutinho joined Villa in January in order to achieve game time as he was largely on the bench for the better part of the season at Barcelona. He has been an integral part of Steven Gerard’s plan and it is safe to say Coutinho chose Aston Villa because of Gerrard, who also was his former teammate at Liverpool. Registering 4 goals amd 3 assists in 15 PL appearances, the winger has been facing speculation regarding his future.
Barcelona are demanding £30m without add-ons for Coutinho’s permanent exit. Gerrard is reportedly ready to meet the board, who are equally excited at the prospect of signing Coutinho fully. The Birmingham side are weighing up a four-year deal for the winger, who turns 30 in June. Coutinho initially wanted just playing time back in January irrespective of the club. However the Brazil international has settled nicely in the Midlands and is now looking forward to signing permanently at Villa Park.
Aston Villa are now working on landing Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez this summer as Gerrard intends to bolster his attacking options. Suarez is a veteran striker who also was a teammate of Gerrard at Liverpool. Reunion huh? Suarez won the Golden Boot at Liverpool in the 2013/2014 season, under Brendan Rodgers. Suarez recorded his highest achievements at Barcelona, when he made the £63m move to the Nou Camp. He won the UEFA Champions League title as well as the Copa Del Ray and the La Liga titles of 2014/15, 15/16, 18/19.
As reported by Mundo, Aston Villa will make an announcement regarding Coutinho’s permanent transfer. The club are very confident that Coutinho will accept as he is no longer interested in returning to Barcelona. Coutinho is well known for his good abilities with dead ball situations as well as his finesse shots, cutting in from the left side and finding the top corner. He is also popular because of his ability to play the number 10 role.
