Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will miss the team’s upcoming match against Girona due to gastroenteritis. This comes as a significant blow for Real Madrid, who already have a long list of absentees. The club confirmed that Courtois is out at the last minute and will not travel with the team for the game.
The Belgian goalkeeper’s absence means that Ukrainian stopper Andriy Lunin will take his place in the starting lineup. Meanwhile, reserve team goalkeeper Mario de Luis has been added to the squad. Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti had previously indicated that Lunin could play more games towards the end of the season.
In addition to Courtois, Real Madrid will also be without French striker Karim Benzema, who sustained an injury during their last game against Celta Vigo. Midfielder Dani Ceballos is suspended, while defenders David Alaba and Ferland Mendy are still out due to injuries. Forward Eden Hazard also remains on the sidelines.
Despite the injury concerns, Real Madrid’s new signing Eduardo Camavinga has been included in the squad for the game against Girona. The team is currently second in the La Liga table, trailing 11 points behind rivals Barcelona with eight matches remaining in the season.
