In a recent development at the Federal High Court, the trial of former Minister of Aviation, Senator Stella Oduah, has been suspended due to alleged death threats directed at the presiding judge, Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo.
The charges against Senator Oduah involve an alleged N7.9 billion fraud, as brought forward by the Federal Government.
Originally scheduled for June 15, the arraignment of Senator Stella Oduah was halted after Justice Ekwo revealed an alarming publication by a corporate organization that included explicit threats against his life. Concerned for his safety, Justice Ekwo decided to postpone the proceedings.
During the court session, Justice Ekwo strongly urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for the threats.
He ordered the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Court to collaborate with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to obtain the necessary information regarding the promoters of the organization behind the threatening publication.
Justice Ekwo has set July 17 as the deadline for the CAC to submit a report uncovering the identities of the organization’s owners and the EFCC’s progress in apprehending the culprits.
Meanwhile, the EFCC is alleging that Senator Stella Oduah misappropriated N7.9 billion in public funds during her tenure as Minister of Aviation under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The additional defendants in the case include Gloria Odita, Nwosu Emmanuel Nnamdi, Chukwuma Irene Chinyere, Global Offshore and Marine Limited, Tip Top Global Resources Limited, Crystal Television Limited, Sobora International Limited, and a foreign construction company. These individuals and entities face charges of conspiracy, money laundering, and the maintenance of anonymous bank accounts.
