Popular Nigerian comedian, Seyi Law, whose real name is Oluwaseyitan Aletile, has taken to social media to express his disappointment and anger over threat messages sent to his family by an internet troll who disagreed with his political views. According to Seyi Law, the troll threatened to make life unbearable for his family in the UK and even went as far as promising death to his daughter.
The comedian, who had publicly supported the APC’s Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections, had earlier apologized to his fans and supporters of opposition parties who were offended by his campaign for Tinubu. However, it appears that the apology was not enough to appease the troll who had resorted to sending vile and threatening messages.
In response to the incident, Seyi Law posted a screenshot of the threatening messages on social media, stating that he was taking steps to bring the perpetrator to book. He also expressed his gratitude to those who reached out to him in solidarity and support.
Seyi Law wrote, “First, I want to appreciate those who reached out to me. I have started working to bring this person to book. And to those who still think the situation is an opportunity to mock me, please enjoy your moment. I chose to ignore the threat before, but an incident warranted me posting it. Check the date. God willing when the person is found. I hope I won’t be accused of intimidation or oppression. God bless you.”
It is truly unfortunate that individuals can resort to such despicable actions as sending threats to innocent family members over political differences. We must all learn to engage in respectful discourse and agree to disagree without resorting to violence or threats. Seyi Law’s determination to bring the perpetrator to justice sends a strong message that such actions will not be tolerated.
