Civil Society Coalition Berates Osun Governor Over Insecurity
Osun State

The Osun Masterminds (TOM), a civil society coalition, has criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State for not doing enough to address the growing insecurity in the state. Speaking during the March edition of the group’s state-of-the-state address, TOM’s Executive Director, Professor Wasiu Ali-Oyedokun, called on the governor to stop supporting thugs and take action against rising cases of thuggery.

According to Ali-Oyedokun, “We have observed the events in the state in recent times, and it seems that political killings are increasing under Governor Ademola Adeleke. In Ilesa and Ikire, three people were reportedly killed, and no one has been held accountable for their gruesome murder. These were political killings, and we expected the state government to take serious action to bring the perpetrators to book if it is sincere about securing the state.”

The group also criticized the governor’s alleged support for miscreants and thugs in the state. “The Adeleke Government must not deliberately rear or pamper thugs at a time when insecurity is threatening the survival of the country itself. Government hobnobbing with miscreants and allowing them to operate in the state is an invitation to chaos in a society that needs peace to thrive. We call on the state government to act urgently and nip the rising profile of thuggery in the bud,” said Ali-Oyedokun.

However, the group commended the governor for addressing outstanding salary arrears from the previous administration and urged him to make the outcome of various review committees set up after his administration public. “Within his first 100 days in office, he has started righting the wrongs of salary modulation of the Aregbesola administration. We commend the Governor for daring to do the right thing despite paucity of funds. We also encourage the Governor to continue in this direction, ensuring that the welfare of the people of the State comes first in his approach to government decisions,” added Ali-Oyedokun.
