The President, Mohammadu Buhari met with Bola Tinubu, standard bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at the presidential villa, Abuja, on Wednesday night.
The meeting is believed to have been held between the hours of 10:00 – 11:00 pm.
This is Tinubu’s first known meeting with the President since the latter returned to Abuja last Sunday after a weeklong US-African Leaders Summit in Washington DC.
At the time of this report, details of the issues discussed were not public.
The meeting came hours after the president said he is ready to campaign for Tinubu and other candidates of the party with “full energy and conviction”.
“This is to dispel expressed concerns in certain quarters that the President has not featured in campaigns since the national launch in Jos, Plateau State, and to stress that while he remains committed to party politics, the functions and duties of the President will equally be upheld at times,” Buhari had said.
“The President noted that the APC campaigns have so far been the most aggressive in recent history. They have been impressive and of a high voltage, compared to the opposition that seems to be playing catch-up.
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo had also paid a visit to the APC standard bearer prior to the president’s meeting with him.
