Beyonce’s mother Tina Knowles has lead stars reacting in fury to the news that Derek Chauvin has been sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison for the murder of George Floyd.
On Friday, Chauvin, 45, spoke briefly to offer the Floyd family his condolences and said: ‘There’s going to be some other information in the future that would be of interest. And I hope things will give you some peace of mind’.
‘Very Disappointing!’ Tina, 67, wrote on her Instagram page. ‘My Godson was sentenced to 20 years for 2 ounces of marijuana he has been In Jail for 11 years. This man convicted of three charges He Murdered This man on TV before the world. And will only serve 15 ! The system has to change! ‘
Chauvin was found guilty in April on all three counts – second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter – for kneeling on Floyd’s neck for nine minutes in May 2020.
Before sentencing, four victim impact statements were read, including from Floyd’s seven-year-old daughter Gianna Floyd, his nephew Brandon Williams, and his brothers Terrence Floyd and Philonise Floyd.
‘I ask about him all the time,’ Gianna said. ‘I was asking how did my dad get hurt. I want to play with him’.
Comedienne Sandra Bernhard took to Twitter in response, writing: ‘Should have been 40 years #GeorgeFloyd he is without remorse a stone cold murderer end of discussion #derekchauvin is devoid of emotion.’
Kathy Griffin tweeted: ‘Of course, it’s not enough time. #GeorgeFloyd’ while Rosanna Arquette said: ‘Sorry mama chauvin ,your son is NOT a good man.’
