The Governors of Cross River, Ben Ayade, and Ebonyi State, David Umahi, met with the governor of Rivers, Nyesom Wike on Wednesday evening.
Ayade and Umahi are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) while Wike belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike’s ally and Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, later joined the meeting held at Wike’s country home, Rumueprikon, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
Although the meeting’s agenda has not been made public, it is not unrelated to the horsetrading ahead of the 2023 general election.
Umahi and Ayade were elected in 2015 and re-elected in 2019 on the platform of the PDP. They both dumped the PDP in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
