Onyeka Shines with an Assist in Augsburg’s 3-1 Victory Over St. Pauli
Augsburg manager Jess Thorup has showered praise on Frank Onyeka following the midfielder’s outstanding debut for the Bundesliga club in their 3-1 win against St. Pauli on Sunday.
The 26-year-old Nigerian made an instant impact in his first appearance for the club, providing an assist and showcasing his quality throughout the match. Despite only joining the team recently, Onyeka seamlessly fit into the squad.
Thorup was full of admiration for Onyeka’s performance, especially considering his limited time with the team. “He (Onyeka) only trained twice and was involved in the international matches,” Thorup said after the game. “From the start, he showed us what a good player he is. He is ready to help the team, and that’s what he did today.”
The manager added that while Onyeka was close to scoring, his assist and overall play were impressive. “Maybe the only thing missing was the goal at the end, although he had an assist and played very well. For a first game, it was really an outstanding game,” Thorup concluded.
Onyeka joined Augsburg on a season-long loan from Premier League club Brentford on transfer deadline day, and his debut performance has already made an impact.
