Aubrey Plaza Absent from Golden Globes After Husband’s Tragic Death

Aubrey Plaza was notably absent from Sunday night’s Golden Globes ceremony, just two days after the heartbreaking death of her husband, filmmaker Jeff Baena.

The star-studded event at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills saw numerous celebrities gather for the 82nd annual awards show, but Plaza was understandably not in attendance. She had been scheduled to present an award, though it remains unclear who stepped in for her.

Tragedy struck on Friday morning when authorities responded to a call at a Los Angeles-area residence. Baena, 46, was found deceased by an assistant. Law enforcement has since confirmed his death was the result of suicide.

Baena was a talented filmmaker, known for directing movies such as Life After Beth and Horse Girl. He also co-wrote the cult classic comedy I Heart Huckabees.

Tributes to Baena poured in over the weekend. Actress Molly Shannon shared a touching series of photos on social media, captioning them with a broken heart emoji. Baena was also mentioned during the Golden Globes ceremony, with The Brutalist director Brady Corbet honoring him in his acceptance speech.

Baena and Plaza married in a private ceremony in 2021, a moment the actress later described as a lowkey celebration during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show.
