Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming 2023 election, has denied rumors of him supporting a particular candidate to fly the party’s flag in the Kogi State Governorship election.
The statement, signed by his Media Adviser, Mazi Paul Ibe, emphasized Atiku’s commitment to internal democracy within the PDP.
The statement read that media reports linking Atiku to any preferred candidate in the primary election for the governorship candidate of the PDP in Kogi State or any other state are false and a gross fabrication. Atiku’s political struggles have always been for the enablement of internal democracy in party politics. Therefore, it is absurd to suggest that he has an anointed candidate.
Atiku has no preferred candidate in the Kogi State primary election and believes that the decision to elect the flag bearer of the PDP in the forthcoming election in the Confluence State is the responsibility of the electors in that primary election. He urged all candidates to desist from peddling influence with his name and called on the media not to fall prey to any blackmail against him.
Atiku Abubakar is of the opinion that all aspirants in the election are capable of flying the flag of the PDP, and the electors should be given the freedom to perform their duty of electing the best person for the party. The statement also reiterated Atiku’s commitment to democracy and his belief in the power of the electorate to make informed decisions.
