The APC Network Vanguard (APCNeV) has strongly criticized the proposal put forth by party governors and leaders to appoint a Muslim as the National chairman and another Muslim as the Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a statement released in Abuja on Monday, the National Coordinator, Moses Abuh, and the Publicity Secretary, Oladunjoye Oladiti, expressed their deep disappointment and emphasized that such a move contradicts the principles of justice and fairness that the party should uphold.
“We were shocked and deeply disappointed to hear about the intentions of the APC leaders and Governors to appoint a Muslim National Chairman and a Muslim National Secretary for our party, APC. This goes against the fundamental principles of justice and fair play,” the statement read.
The APCNeV vehemently opposes the prospect of having both the highest-ranking position and the head of the secretariat administration occupied by members of the same religion. They assert that this approach is entirely unacceptable and call on influential figures like President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Hope Uzodima, who serves as the chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, to reconsider and retract their supposed decision. The group urges them to prioritize equity, fairness, and justice – values that are central to the party’s identity.
“It is wrong and unfair for the APC Governors and party leaders to propose a Muslim National Chairman and a Muslim National Secretary simultaneously. We implore the party’s leadership to maintain the current practice of appointing a Muslim chairman and a Christian secretary or vice versa to ensure balance. This is to prevent our party from being perceived as favoring one religion over the other by the electorate, our members, well-wishers, and sympathizers,” cautioned APCNeV.
The group also pledged its unwavering support and loyalty to the administration of Tinubu/Shettima. They encouraged Nigerians to rally behind and pray for its success, as it would be beneficial not only to the country but also to all its citizens.
In conclusion, the APC Network Vanguard has expressed its strong objection to the proposal of appointing two Muslim individuals to the top leadership positions within the APC. They have called for adherence to the principles of fairness and justice and have reaffirmed their support for the current administration.
