The Vice Chairman of the North West region for the ruling All Progressives Congress, Malam Salihu Lukman, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to respect the recent ruling from the Supreme Court regarding the deadline for the naira swap.

APC Vice Chairman Urges President to Respect Supreme Court Ruling on Naira Swap Lukman believes that this would demonstrate the President’s commitment to democracy and strengthen his democratic credentials.

The Supreme Court recently ruled in favor of Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara States, and has prevented the Federal Government and Central Bank of Nigeria from implementing the February 10 deadline for the validity of the old Naira notes until the substantial suit is determined.

In a statement titled “Cashless economy and presidential cabal,” Lukman advised the President to take the situation of Nigerians into consideration and follow the ruling from the Supreme Court, in line with the principles of the rule of law. He emphasized the importance of demonstrating compassion for the Nigerian people and ending the current difficulties caused by the scarcity of Naira in the country.

Lukman expressed disappointment in the inability of party leaders to convince the President to reconsider the implementation of this policy, which he believes has caused frustration within the APC and across all segments of society. He also noted that the only person who appears to not be frustrated by the policy is Alh. Atiku Abubakar, leading some to argue that the “cabal” around the President wants Abubakar to win the election.

Lukman suggested that political parties should work to develop a system that allows them to regulate the conduct of elected officials. He believes that this will prevent future issues and move Nigerian democracy forward by allowing political parties to make decisions and produce accountable leaders. He also stressed the importance of honesty and listening to Nigerians and fellow party leaders in order to progress in democracy.
