The United States National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Oyakhilome Bello, has stated that the party’s chapter in the US will exert efforts to defend the mandate of Sen. Bola Tinubu, the President-elect, even from the Diaspora. Bello made this declaration in a statement on Saturday in Abuja, and he revealed that the chapter had already secured a permit to hold a peaceful protest on April 3 at Lafayette Park, South West Quadrant, Washington DC.
According to Bello, the protest is a counter-measure against the planned demonstration of some individuals who are against the emergence of Tinubu as the President-elect. Bello emphasized that the protest is also to oppose anti-democratic forces that desire to overturn Nigeria’s recently concluded presidential election and create unrest in the country.
He further explained that the demonstration is to show solidarity for the mandate that Nigerians freely gave to Tinubu at the polls, and to let the world know that he was the rightful winner of the election as declared by INEC, Nigeria’s electoral body. The APC USA Youth Leader added that they would defend the voice of the majority of Nigerian electorate because they had come too far to let a select few destroy what they had built over decades.
Bello, who is also the Deputy Director of the North America APC Youth Wing Campaign Council, extended an invitation to all defenders of democracy to join a peaceful protest outside the Washington Capital on the slated date. He noted that the APC USA Chapter, led by Prof. Adesegun Labinjo, its National Chairman, and Maryland Branch Chairman, Mr Adeleke Lamoriyu, had secured a permit for the protest to demonstrate solidarity for the people’s mandate freely given to Tinubu on Feb. 25 at the polls.
In conclusion, Bello called on all patriots, lovers, and defenders of democracy far and near to join them as they show their support for the people’s mandate. The APC USA chapter will work tirelessly to defend the voice of the majority of Nigerian electorate and ensure that the mandate given to Tinubu is upheld.
