The All Progressives Congress, APC, National Working Committee, NWC, has announced Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege as its candidate for the position of Deputy Senate President of the 9th National Assembly.
The announcement of his adoption by the party was made on Monday by APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, in a statement in Abuja.
According to him, the decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the NWC held in Abuja, which also endorsed Muhammed Wase as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
He also said the decision was taken after consultations with President Muhammadu Buhari, party stakeholders, and APC State Governors.
The statement said: “All elected APC members in the Senate and House of Representatives are hereby directed to fully mobilise as a united force behind the party’s choice.
“Members who have earlier signified interests in these positions are urged to support the party’s decisions as loyal and committed members.”
Recall that the APC had earlier announced Senators Ahmed Lawan and Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila as its candidates for the positions of Senate President and Speaker of House Representatives.
Recall also that APC governors under the aegis of Progressives Governors Forum, after a meeting on Sunday night at the Kebbi Governor’s Lodge, Abuja, announced their support for the party’s choice of candidates for principal offices in the soon-to-be inaugurated 9th National Assembly.
Omo-Agege, a lawyer from Orogun in Ughelli North Local Government Area (LGA) represents Delta Central District in the Senate.
