In a surprising turn of events, youth leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North Central region have shown their support for the reported nomination of Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the former Governor of Kano State, for the position of the party’s National Chairman. This endorsement comes despite the development being in contrast to the party’s zoning formula.
The current zoning formula designates the National Chairmanship position to the North Central region. However, APC youth leaders from the zone have willingly chosen to relinquish their right to the position in favor of Dr Ganduje’s candidacy.
Addressing the media during a news conference in Abuja, Comrade Okpokwu Ogenyi, the Convener of the Coalition of North Central APC Youths and Support Groups, emphasized the region’s political significance and historical contributions to ruling parties in the country. He stated that the North Central zone has consistently produced competent leaders, including a Chairman who led the party to victory in the last general election.
Comrade Ogenyi wholeheartedly endorsed Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as the ideal candidate for the party’s National Chairman. He praised Ganduje’s intellectual prowess and unwavering dedication to the party. Despite the opportunity to push for the position to remain in the North Central, the youth leaders expressed their willingness to give other zones a chance to participate in the party’s administration, emphasizing their commitment to national interest over personal gain.
In a related development, the Forum of APC Ward Chairmen also expressed their support for Dr Ganduje’s candidacy. Hon. Yakubu Ishaya, the Director General of the Forum, highlighted Ganduje’s distinguished career trajectory, starting as a civil servant and rising to become the Governor of Kano State. The Ward Chairmen firmly believed that Ganduje possessed all the qualities necessary for a successful APC National Chairman.
Additionally, Yusuf Gwamna, the National Coordinator of APC Critical Stakeholders’ Forum, appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the leader of the APC, to endorse Dr Ganduje’s candidacy. The Forum, which is committed to the party’s manifesto and ideology, urged President Tinubu to support Ganduje’s bid, seeing it as the opportune moment to set the party on the right path for a brighter future.
The stakeholders expressed the need for an uncompromising and capable leader who understands the intricacies of governance and can effectively implement the party’s manifesto for the development of Nigeria. They firmly believed that with Dr Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman, the country would witness true progress and efficient leadership from an ideal governing party.
As the APC anticipates a new era under fresh leadership, the support garnered from youth leaders and grassroots party members stands as a testament to Dr Ganduje’s suitability for the role. The party’s National Convention, where the new leadership will be officially elected, is eagerly awaited, as the APC strives to reinforce its position as a formidable political force in Nigeria.
