The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to the call by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for a rerun of the recently concluded gubernatorial election in the state.
According to the APC State Publicity Secretary, Tunde Oladunjoye, in a statement released in Abeokuta, the call by the PDP and its major promoter, former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, indicates that they are “sore losers.”
The statement goes on to say that the call for a rerun is baseless and came barely minutes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the results. It was also published by a newspaper funded by Amosun. The APC believes that this call could only come from those who knew of their electoral loss well in advance.
The APC expressed its disappointment at having to react to the baseless demand from the PDP, especially since major newspapers are yet to report or provide details of the election results. The statement also called on the retired political gladiators to go home, relax, and lick their wounds after their loss at the polls. The APC believes that despite their display of humongous ill-gotten wealth and violence, the PDP is still in disbelief that they lost the election.
The statement also condemned the involvement of the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate, Ladi Adebutu’s late mother in electoral bribery. The APC called it a big shame and an acute moral deficiency on the part of the PDP candidate. While setting up a foundation in one’s late mother’s name is charitable, it is unacceptable and ridiculous to use such a gesture to induce voters.
The APC urged its supporters to be magnanimous in victory, avoid provocation, and report any threat to peace to the nearest police station. The statement concludes by thanking the people of Ogun State for keeping faith with the APC and not succumbing to financial temptations.
