Boxing Star Prioritizes Entertainment After Record-Breaking Bout
Boxing champion Amanda Serrano had one thing on her mind after suffering a severe gash above her eye in her bout against Katie Taylor—making it in time to watch Jake Paul face Mike Tyson. Despite the gruesome injury, Serrano was more focused on not missing the high-profile fight card than on her own medical concerns.
“Fix It Fast, I Have Plans”
Serrano, 36, recounted the dramatic incident during an interview with TMZ Sports. “Thank God the doctor was a plastic surgeon,” Serrano said. “I told him, ‘Please, I have two requests: don’t make it look really bad, and can you do it in a little rush? Because I have to go watch Jake [Paul].’”
The Puerto Rican star was impressed with the result, noting that the doctor managed to stitch the cut in a way that left minimal scarring. “It’s in the shape of the eyebrow, so you can barely see it with a little bit of makeup,” Serrano said, expressing gratitude for the quick and skillful work.
Historic Fight Leaves Its Mark
The Serrano-Taylor rematch was a monumental event, drawing an average of 74 million viewers, making it the most-watched women’s sporting event in U.S. history.
While Serrano remained composed during the fight, the extent of her injury only hit home after she left the ring. “My corner, which is my brother-in-law and my sister, kept it calm and cool. They didn’t tell me how big it was,” she explained. “When I went to the back and looked in the mirror, I was like, ‘Oh my God.’”
The gruesome sight brought a tear to her eye, but not out of concern for herself. “I was more sad for the people watching, especially my family back home—they had to see that. It was really gruesome.”
A Night of Spectacles
Reflecting on the night, Serrano described the fight and the entire Paul vs. Tyson card as “truly amazing.”
“I’m just happy that I was a part of such a great event,” Serrano said. “In that ring, we showed so many millions of people that women can fight—bloody and all, big cuts and all. There was no quitting in me. I was going to give the fans what they came to see, and it was a great fight.”
Her resilience and determination continue to cement Serrano’s reputation as one of the toughest fighters in the sport. As for her post-fight plans? She made it to the Paul vs. Tyson showdown, proving that even a nasty injury couldn’t slow her down.
