Air Force Officers Invade UNIOSUN Campus, Attack Students

According to reports by PUNCH, the officers attached to the Institute of Safety in Ipetu Ijesa, Osun state invaded the campus in armored personnel carriers and other vehicles. The men reportedly stormed the institution armed with guns, cutlasses, daggers and clubs and other dangerous weapons.

It was learnt that though the cause of their invasion is not yet known, some residents said the Air Force men came to arrest some students, who they claimed were involved in internet fraud, also known as Yahoo.

Following the invasion, no fewer than 11 students and 2 workers were injured in the attack. The military men reportedly hit gun, cutlasses and sticks freely on anyone they came across. Confirming the attack on the institution, the dean, student affairs of UNIOSUN, Dr Adebimpe Adigun, said the situation was bloody.

She said: Six of our students are on bed in the hospital now, five are being treated on the bench now. Two members of staff were also wounded by these military men. They did not fire a single shot, but they beat students and injured them. They also beat staff (members) and everybody.

They threatened to shoot me if I moved close to them. I knelt down and begged them, but they did not listen. “I called their commandant on the telephone to help talk to his boys. I think he did because they have left our campus now. “But we are yet to see some of our students who ran inside the bush to escape the attack.

However, the commandant of the air force, Air Commodore Jolasinmi, could not be reached for comments about the attack as his telephone indicated that it was out of coverage area. Meanwhile, a container load of arms has been intercepted by the Nigerian Customs Service at the Tin Can Island in Lagos, Premium Times reports. The container was discovered at the ports and cargo terminal of the port. A source at the ports said the customs authority have ordered everyone out of the terminal and locked everywhere.
