In a candid and thought-provoking revelation, renowned musician Burna Boy has candidly expressed his views on Afrobeats, describing it as lacking depth and substance.
The Grammy award-winning artist shared his perspective during an exclusive interview on Apple Music, where he delved into his thoughts on the state of contemporary African music.
Burna Boy, often referred to as the “African Giant” for his impactful contributions to the music scene, articulated that a significant portion of Afrobeat’s songs fail to capture genuine real-life experiences.
He argued that approximately 90 percent of these tracks primarily showcase a facade of an enjoyable and carefree existence, without delving into the multifaceted aspects of life.
During the interview, the Nigerian sensation highlighted, “Not even experience, because half of them like 90% of them have no real-life experience that they can understand.
“That’s why you hear most Nigerian music, African Music or Afrobeats as you people call it, is mostly about nothing, absolutely nothing. There is no substance to it, like nobody is talking about anything, it’s just a great time. But at the end of the day, life isn’t an amazing time”
