Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has announced the release of N100 million as a counterpart fund for the implementation of the Adolescent Girls Initiatives for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project in the state. The governor made this disclosure during a meeting with government officials and stakeholders held in Yola on Wednesday.
AGILE is a project supported by the World Bank in collaboration with the National Project Coordinating Unit (NPCU). The primary objective of the project is to enhance education infrastructure and promote positive social behavior change within communities, among other goals.
Representing Governor Fintiri at the event, Hajiya Aisha Umar, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, expressed that the released fund would position Adamawa State at the forefront of implementing the AGILE project. She further appealed to stakeholders to continue supporting the government in achieving the project’s objectives.
Aisha Mohammed, the Task Team Lead for the AGILE project, emphasized the importance of the engagement as an avenue for the Adamawa Government to address issues relevant to the successful implementation of the project. Mohammed urged stakeholders to actively contribute their wealth of experience to ensure the project’s success in the state.
During her presentation, Dr. Fatima Jagun, an Operations Officer and Health Specialist from the World Bank Group, highlighted that the AGILE project encompasses various sectors such as healthcare, women’s affairs, and the environment, with a particular focus on improving secondary education, especially for girls. She emphasized that the project aims to enhance education infrastructure, promote social behavior change in communities, provide health facilities, and deliver information on climate change and digital literacy.
The implementation of the AGILE project in Adamawa State is set to bring about significant improvements across multiple sectors, benefiting the education system, women, healthcare, and the environment. With the release of the N100 million counterpart fund, the state is poised to make substantial progress in achieving the project’s objectives. The collaboration between the World Bank, the National Project Coordinating Unit, and the Adamawa Government, as well as the active involvement of stakeholders, is expected to drive the success of the AGILE project in the state.
