Public Apology Marks End to Feud Following 2021 Baba Ijesha Controversy
Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing has issued a public apology to the Theater Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners of Nigeria (TAMPAN) and its president, Bolaji Amusan, known as Mr. Latin, for past criticisms that sparked a prolonged feud between her and the association. The dispute originated in 2021 when Nkechi and fellow actress Iyabo Ojo openly condemned TAMPAN’s handling of the Baba Ijesha child abuse case, a stance that stirred backlash within the industry.
In support of the alleged victim, Nkechi and Iyabo took to social media, speaking out against Baba Ijesha’s alleged actions. This move led to clashes with TAMPAN members, notably actors Yomi Fabiyi and Lege Maimi, who disagreed with their approach. In response, veteran actor Jide Kosoko, representing TAMPAN’s leadership, imposed a directive barring directors from working with the two actresses, a decision Nkechi openly mocked at the time.
However, at the recent Celebrities Entertainment Awards in Canada, Nkechi reversed her stance. In a video circulating online, she was seen kneeling before Mr. Latin, microphone in hand, expressing sincere regret for her past remarks. The gesture was widely interpreted as an effort to mend relationships and close a chapter on the contentious issues.
