Cindy Williams, an actress who rose to fame through her role in the 1970s hit sitcom “Laverne & Shirley” passed away on Wednesday, January 25th, at the age of 75, in Los Angeles.
Williams’ family released a statement Monday, Jan. 30 to announce her death.
The statement reads, “The passing of our kind, hilarious mother, Cindy Williams, has brought us insurmountable sadness that could never truly be expressed.
Knowing and loving her has been our joy and privilege. She was one of a kind, beautiful, generous and possessed a brilliant sense of humor and a glittering spirit that everyone loved”
The actress, who was best known for her work in George Lucas’s film “American Graffiti,” had a long and illustrious career in show business. She starred alongside Penny Marshall in “Laverne & Shirley” for 8 seasons and the show became one of the most-watched sitcoms in the United States, receiving six Golden Globe nominations and one Emmy nomination.
The actress, who received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, was a fan favorite, as recognized by a TV Land award, and even won Best Actress at the L.A. Comedy Film Festival for her work in the indie film “Stealing Roses.” Though she left “Laverne & Shirley” in its 8th season after becoming pregnant, she went on to take on projects on Broadway and made guest appearances on shows like “8 Simple Rules.” In 2013, she even reunited with Penny Marshall for an episode of “Sam & Cat.”
