Evil Threatens To Overshadow Good In "The Dark Crystal" Trailer

The official trailer for THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE, an upcoming Netflix television series, has dropped and it appears to be nothing short of a visual wonder.

The animated series is set to start showing on Netflix on August 30, 2019, and it packs a star-studded cast.

The story is about three Gelflings (little Elf-like beings) who inspire a rebellion against the Skeksis (the villains, who closely resemble vultures) when they discover a horrifying secret behind their power that threatens to destroy their world of Thra.

The producers have chosen to depend on puppetry and not CGI, except for the use of green screens to remove puppeteers.

Muppet Veteran, Dave Goelz alongside concept artist, Brian Froud, is behind the design of the puppets that breathe life into the characters. The world of Thra is inspired by HBO’s acclaimed series GAME OF THRONES and M. Night Shyamalan’s THE LAST AIRBENDER movie.

Thra seems to be teaming with plant life (the animated movie EPIC and James Cameron’s AVATAR come to mind), boasting visually-stunning geographical landscapes. The special effects are impressive and magic will play a major role here, it seems.

The Skeksis are menacing creatures and the three protagonists (Rian, Brea, Deet) are obviously in for the fight of their lives.

There has been a lot of animated series but THE DARK CRYSTAL stands out because of its more mature retelling of the theme of good versus evil. It is safe to say that it will turn out to be another memorable outing for lovers of animation as Netflix rarely disappoints.

With a talented voice cast that includes Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, Nathalie Emmanuel, Toby Jones and Mark Strong, THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE is set to leave an indelible mark in the minds of movie fans.
