It finally happened: the moment the entire beauty community has been waiting for. Jackie Aina and longtime boyfriend Denis Asamoah are engaged.
After years of rumors of secret weddings and down-low engagements, the two have finally put an end to all that speculation. Denis popped the question while they were on vacation in Mykonos, Greece celebrating Jackie’s 32nd birthday.
Denis shared exactly how the proposal went down.
“The proposal took place on a private rooftop and had a direct view to the sunset! This terrace was the perfect setting for a private dinner and proposal,” he wrote. “Sade is Jackie’s favorite artist and I had a saxophonist ???? play her favorite hits throughout the night.”
“After walking up a number of stairs and Jackie nearly falling into the candles it was at this point, I went down on my bad knees, and took out the ring, and prepare to say my speech,” he continued. “Whilst she was dancing to ‘nothing can come between us’ I was struggling to get the ring box out of my pocket. I eventually got there in the end.”
The engagement ring is just as flawless, extra, and expensive as Jackie Aina herself.
Jackie Aina was born August 4, 1987 and is an Nigerian American beauty YouTuber. She advocates for visibility of People of Color in the cosmetic industry. She has partnered with e.l.f. Cosmetics, Too Faced, Sephora and Sigma Beauty.
As a champion for diversity within the makeup industry, Jackie Aina argues that people of color are poorly represented and often ignored in the beauty industry, and has criticized makeup shade ranges for not being inclusive. She has continuously pointed out the lack of darker shade ranges for foundations within lines.
She told Bustle in 2018, “We all come from so many different backgrounds and we also come in different shades and varieties, and what may be something that I’d be willing to overlook may not be the case for someone else.”
While Jackie Aina’s criticism of cosmetics companies has compromised relations that she had with several of them, she asserts that her intention is never to disparage them. Several cosmetics companies accepted her criticism, which led to successful partnerships between them and Jackie Aina.
