CAF Postpones Nigeria vs. Libya Match Over Alleged Mistreatment of Super Eagles Players
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have maintained their lead in Group D of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, despite the postponement of their match against Libya. This follows Rwanda’s 2-1 victory over Benin Republic in Kigali on Tuesday night.
Nigeria was scheduled to face the Mediterranean Knights of Libya in Benina, but the Confederation of African Football (CAF) called off the game. The decision was made after reports emerged of the alleged mistreatment of Super Eagles players by Libyan authorities upon their arrival in the country.
Meanwhile, in the match played at Amahoro Stadium, Benin took the lead just before halftime when Andeas Hountondji scored in the 42nd minute. Rwanda, however, responded in the second half with goals from Innocent Nshuti and Djihad Bizimana to secure a crucial win.
With the results, Nigeria remains at the top of the table with seven points from three matches. Benin Republic is in second place with six points, followed by Rwanda, who now have five points from four games. Libya sits at the bottom with only one point from three matches.
