Ritchie Torres Condemns Andrew Makadsi for Allegedly Glorifying Anti-Israel Protest
Andrew Makadsi, the creative director of Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment, is facing backlash from U.S. Congressman Ritchie Torres, who has condemned him for allegedly promoting violence during an anti-Israel protest. The controversy stems from a post by Makadsi that depicted a protester reportedly setting his arm on fire during a demonstration in Washington, D.C.
Torres took to Instagram on Sunday, criticizing Makadsi for glorifying the self-immolation of the activist, which he linked to anti-Israel sentiment. The congressman’s comments came on the eve of the anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the kidnapping of 251 others.
In his post, Torres stated, “Any cultural influencer who glorifies violence and aestheticizes Antisemitism and AntiZionism has no business influencing any culture, let alone our own,” underscoring his concerns about Makadsi’s role in shaping public perception.
The congressman also referenced past allegations against Makadsi, noting that he had previously been accused of posting antisemitic content on social media. In July, StopAntisemitism’s X account shared a screenshot allegedly showing Makadsi’s Instagram Story calling for “death to all zi0s and their followers,” which was removed after 24 hours.
While Beyoncé has not yet addressed the controversy, many fans have taken to social media, tagging her in comments under Makadsi’s posts and expressing their disappointment. They have questioned whether the singer wants to continue associating with someone facing such serious allegations.
