Despite Anthony Martial’s difficult start to the current season, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has made it plain that the club does not want to part ways with him during the January transfer window. This is the latest development at the club.
Rumors circulated in January that Martial, who has scored once in thirteen Premier League outings, could be leaving the club. Ten Hag has denied the rumors, saying that the team wants to keep the French attacker through the end of the season. Talks over Martial’s future at Old Trafford were already heating up before he missed three games with a sickness that was never fully explained.
Ten Hag denied the sale speculations when speaking to the media just before United’s 3-2 win over Aston Villa. I will definitely let you know when we have news. Speaking about the club’s position on Martial’s status, he clarified that selling him is not their goal.
The 28-year-old, who was outstanding during his time at Monaco, turned down offers from clubs such as Fenerbahce and West Ham to leave Old Trafford last summer. Ten Hag has hinted at potential contract extension negotiations with Martial, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Hannibal Mejbri, and United, so his devotion to the club may go beyond this season. Their current contracts have an extra year of potential extension thanks to the club’s option.
It is worth mentioning that Martial has played about 450 minutes in the Premier League this season, although he has only produced 137 passes in 13 matches. Against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup, he scored his lone other goal.
Amidst all of this, INEOS is said to be involved in Manchester United’s decision-making process, especially when it comes to transfers. Sir Jim Ratcliffe has recently acquired a 25% ownership in the team, and the Premier League is currently approving this. United is United, and Ratcliffe has lofty ambitions to take the club back to its glory days and make it the best in the world. It would appear that Ratcliffe’s goals for the club are closely related to Martial’s future at the club.
