The Canadian High Commission in Abuja has temporarily suspended its operations following a fire incident that occurred on Monday. According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the high commission, located at 13010G, Palm Close, Diplomatic Drive, in the Central Business District of Abuja, appeared to have only security personnel present on Tuesday.
On their official social media page, the Canadian High Commission had announced the suspension of operations due to a fire that had damaged a section of the commission in Abuja. This suspension affects various services provided by the High Commission, including visa and immigration services for individuals intending to visit or immigrate to Canada.
Additionally, services for Canadians living in Nigeria and those in Equatorial Guinea, as well as Sao Tome and Principe, have also been temporarily halted. These services encompass adoption and surrogacy, birth registration abroad, citizenship services, marriage abroad, passport services, notarial services, studying abroad, and visa and immigration services.
When inquired about the situation, a security personnel on duty at the high commission informed NAN that no other staff members were present at the premises and suggested returning on Wednesday, November 8, for further updates.
