The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern warning to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state, urging him to cease inciting the populace against the administration of President Bola Tinubu. The party also strongly refuted the governor’s claims, accusing him of attempting to deflect his own “incompetence” onto the newly established Tinubu administration.
In a recent statement delivered through his Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, Governor Obaseki pointed fingers at the Federal Government for the deteriorating condition of federal roads in the state. He laid the blame on the Federal Government for the hardships experienced by the people due to the removal of petrol subsidy, leading to an unprecedented surge in the price of this essential commodity.
However, the APC, through a press release endorsed by Blessing Agbomhere, the publicity secretary of the South-South Zonal Organising Secretary, dismissed Obaseki’s accusations as unfounded and manipulative. The party emphasized that the governor was conveniently attempting to shift the blame for his “utter failure” onto the fledgling administration of President Tinubu, which had only been in office for less than three months.
The APC further emphasized that Obaseki, who took office following the tenure of Adams Oshiomhole, a former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, had not demonstrated significant achievements during his more than seven years in power. Instead, the governor was accused of capitalizing on the developmental accomplishments of his predecessor while failing to produce tangible progress himself.
The party’s statement shed light on the economic challenges that Obaseki inherited when he assumed office in 2008, citing a sharp drop in the state’s monthly revenue to N1.6 billion due to global economic crises, with an IGR of N30 million, totaling N1.9 billion.
The APC challenged Governor Obaseki to present substantial evidence of his impact and achievements, urging him to move beyond mere promises and Memoranda of Understanding that have yielded no significant results. The party also implored the governor to cease sowing discord among the people of Edo State against the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
As the days progress, the APC assured Nigerians of an impending process of transformation, citing the upcoming screening and swearing-in of cabinet ministers as a critical step in this journey. The party called for patience from the citizenry as these transformative measures take effect.
