In a bid to resuscitate dormant industries across Nigeria, Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio has pledged to collaborate with President Ahmed Tinubu’s executive arm of the federal government. This assurance was conveyed in a statement released by Akpabio, as he responded to the demands put forth by his predecessor, former Senator Christopher Ekpenyong, who represented Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial district.
During a visit to Senator Ekpenyong’s office in Abuja, accompanied by members of the 10th Senate, Akpabio expressed the Senate’s readiness to leverage its powers in supporting the revival of ailing industries. The Senate President conveyed his gratitude to Senator Ekpenyong for his substantial support during his campaign for the position of Senate President, transcending political affiliations. Akpabio emphasized that past political differences were to be left behind, asserting that the focus should now be on working for the people.
Citing President Tinubu’s performance during his initial 20 days in office, Akpabio expressed confidence that neglected industries across the nation would receive the necessary attention, aiming to generate employment opportunities for the country’s unemployed youth and stimulate economic growth.
“We, the 10th National Assembly, will pass relevant legislation to rejuvenate these industries for the benefit of our unemployed youth and the economic prosperity of our nation,” declared Akpabio.
Addressing the Senate delegation, Senator Ekpenyong welcomed and thanked Akpabio for the visit. He reiterated the urgency of taking swift action to revive numerous abandoned viable industries, such as the Ajaokuta Steel Company in Kogi State and the Oku Iboku Paper mill in Akwa Ibom State.
“Today, I am fulfilled and a happy man because the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial district has produced the third-highest-ranking official in this country. Let us set aside our political differences and work for the betterment of our people and Nigeria,” Ekpenyong expressed, congratulating Akpabio on his well-deserved victory.
In his brief remarks, former Governor of Ebonyi State, Senator David Umahi, commended Senator Akpabio’s leadership in the 10th Senate, expressing confidence that it would stabilize Nigeria’s economy.
The collaborative efforts between the Senate President and President Tinubu’s administration are expected to breathe new life into dormant industries, fostering job creation and economic growth. With a commitment to transcending political divides, the focus remains on the welfare and interests of the Nigerian people as they work towards a prosperous future.
